How it works
A fence is one of the few cases where the customer already knows the key number: the length of their property line. That's why a calculator works better here than in most construction niches: people enter the length, choose the material and immediately see a ballpark figure. Chain link and a brick wall differ in price several times over, so any price advertised before the material is chosen means nothing.
The second question that defines the request is whether installation is needed. Some customers want a turnkey crew, others just want to buy the material and install it themselves. These are two different orders with different amounts and margins, and it's best to separate them at the start, not three minutes into a phone call. The template has a question for that, and the request shows right away which one it is.
The driveway gate and walk gate are the line items most often forgotten in an estimate, even though they take a noticeable share of the order value. The quiz asks about them explicitly: both, driveway gate only, walk gate only or neither. It's worth customizing the template: replace the material images with photos of your own projects and add a question about the job location if you don't cover every area.
