How it works
Radiant floor heating isn't priced by the size of the home but by the area to be heated, and these are different numbers: it isn't installed under furniture or in walkways. That's why the template first asks which rooms need heat (bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, half bath, entryway, balcony) and asks for the area separately for wet zones and for everything else.
The second deciding factor is the flooring. Tile and porcelain take one system, laminate and hardwood take another, with different power limits. In the quiz these are separate questions for the bathroom and for the other rooms, because the flooring there is almost always different, and combining them in one answer leads to a wrong quote.
The last question is about thermostat sensors: floor temperature control, air temperature control or both. It's a minor detail next to the installation, but it's exactly what later shows up as a separate charge. For completing the quiz, the template offers a guide to extending the life of a radiant floor: in a niche where people buy once and for years, useful material works better than a discount.
