How it works
People buy an alarm system after a scare (a neighbor's break-in, a forced shed at the country house) and want a ballpark price, but they don't know what it's made of. The quote calculator answers that with things they do know: what kind of property it is, how many rooms it has, whether there are valuables that need special protection. Visitors build the system setup themselves from the options: cameras, motion and glass-break sensors, door and window contacts, indoor and outdoor sirens, fire alarm.
The number of rooms is asked with a slider, and that's a reasonable compromise: the exact sensor count is worked out on site, but the number of spaces already gives you the order of magnitude of the quote. The valuables question helps your sales rep: for that customer it makes sense to offer reinforced protection for a specific area instead of the standard package.
What's worth stating honestly in the result is the difference between equipment and service. If you offer central station monitoring, that's a monthly fee separate from the one-time installation cost, and it's better for customers to see that from the start. The estimate is still preliminary: the exact number of sensors and where they go are determined during the site visit.
